Department/Group Profile
Ericsson Research & Development centre in Athlone has global responsibility for the OSS product. This product enables Ericsson customers to configure, monitor, optimize and maintain their 2G and 3G Radio, Core and Wireline Networks. The organization employs approximately 500 people working over the complete life cycle.
Role Responsibilities
Engineers in our Research & Development Centre in Athlone work in the following areas:
• Software Design Engineer This role includes Development of Telecom Management Software suites for 3G Mobile Networks using leading edge Java-based Distributed System Development tools and development technologies.
• System Integration Engineer The purpose of the role is to develop the OSS System Configuration Kit (SCK) which facilitates system dimensioning, installation and configuration.
• System Verification Engineer This role involves the System test of OSSRC product, entailing stability, characteristic & performance verification on the OSSRC product and Integration & verification of OSSRC product towards 2G & 3G telecom Network Elements
• Systems Design Engineer This role involves the analysis of the impact of new/changed requirements on the architecture, evolving a robust architecture for the system and the network and adapting the design to match the performance and the implementation environment.
The skills necessary for these roles are as follows:
• Knowledge of Telecoms for 2G & 3G Mobile Networks
• Full Software development life cycle, including Design, Integration and Verification
• XML & Corba • Database Engineering principles
• Configuration Management processes
• Scripting Languages (C shell, Kornshell, Perl)
• Unix administration
• Software development using Java
• OOAD techniques
• Open Systems technical competence is essential.
Any vacant positions require a university degree in Computer Science / Software Engineering or other related degree, good communication and documentation skills, good team working and problem solving skills.
